In anul 79 d.Hr., mii de oameni au murit arsi de vii in explozia vulcanului Vezuviu, care a ingropat in cenusa orasele Pompei si Herculaneum. Geologii au aflat ca in aceasta zona zace “ascuns” un super-vulcan, care ar putea provoca milioane de victime.

Regiunea de langa golful Napoli este o importanta atractie turistica si datorita activitatii sale vulcanice, care a creat un relief aparte.

Tiwanaku

Tiwanaku is an important Pre-Columbian archaeological site in Bolivia. Tiwanaku was the ritual and administrative capital of a major state, one of the most important precursors to the Inca Empire, flourishing for approximately five hundred years between 500 AD and 1000 AD.

The ruins of the ancient city state are near the south-eastern shore of Lake Titicaca, about 72 km west of La Paz, Bolivia.

NASA's Curiosity rover touched down safely on the surface of Mars early Monday morning, Eastern Daylight Time, sticking the landing in what had been one of the most anticipated—and feared—arrivals in the history of robotic planetary exploration.

The 900-kilogram rover autonomously navigated its landing sequence, slowing from 21,000 kilometers per hour at the top of the atmosphere to a dead stop on the surface, with nary an apparent hitch.
