Российские геологи рассказали об исполинском месторождении в Сибири

Группа российских геологов на минувшей неделе произвела сенсацию в российских СМИ, заявив о рассекречивании гигантского алмазного месторождения. По предварительным оценкам, запасы Попигайского кратера, где алмазы впервые были обнаружены еще в 70-х годах, "составляют триллионы каратов", что в тысячи раз больше доказанных запасов Якутии. Впрочем, обольщаться пока рано - возможности разработки месторождения пока не уточнены, равно как и свойства находящихся там алмазов.

Final restoration work is now in full swing at Egypt's famous Saqqara Necropolis, home of King Djoser's iconic Step Pyramid and a collection of Old Kingdom mastabas and tombs.

Soon, tombs of Sixth Dynasty Chief of Justice Mereuka and Fifth Dynasty Vizier Ptahhotep, along with the Apis tombs of the Serapeum, will be open to the public.

Australian study backs major assumption of cosmology

In mankind's attempts to gain some understanding of this marvelous place in which we live, we have slowly come to accept some principles to help guide our search. One such principle is that the Universe, on a large enough scale, is homogeneous, meaning that one part looks pretty much like another. Recent studies by a group of Australian researchers have established that, on sizes greater than about 250 million light years (Mly), the Universe is indeed statistically homogeneous, thereby reinforcing this cosmological principle.

В освоении Арктики не хватает прорывных идей

"Человеческого и технического потенциала в стране достаточно для выполнения крупномасштабных задач в Арктике. Но по большому счету, не хватает прорывных идей", - заявил на конференции в Архангельске заместитель руководителя Ассоциации исследователей Арктики Владимир Блинов, передает корреспондент ИА REGNUM.

"На начальных этапах освоения Арктики принимались зачастую очень рискованные решения, например, о продлении и открытии круглогодичной навигации. Ставились большие задачи и весь потенциал подтягивался к их решению. Сегодня таких задач в Артике я не вижу, хотя возможности для этого беспрецедентные", - сказал Блинов.

Eruptions weaken at Guatemala's Volcano of Fire

Eruptions at Guatemala's Volcano of Fire weakened Friday, one day after powerful blasts sent columns of smoke and ash high into the sky and forced authorities to order a mass evacuation.

The number and intensity of eruptions had dropped to the point that emergency officials said they could allow some of the people ordered to flee on Thursday to return home.

Authorities said they evacuated about one-third of the 33,000 area residents that they were prepared to shelter if eruptions intensified.

Going underground

ESA's CAVES training programme began its second phase last Friday as six astronauts ventured into the Sardinian caves in Italy that are their home this week. CAVES mimics elements of spaceflight to prepare astronauts and trainers for the real thing.

Spending time underground might not be the most obvious environment to practise spaceflight procedures but Hans Bolender, Head of the European Astronaut training division explains: "There are many similarities to spaceflight such as a lack of day-night cycle, sensory deprivation, minimal hygiene and the necessity to work as a team and solve problems together."

Dupa uciderea lui Socrate, polisul atenian a inceput sa se destrame. Analizand situatia lui Socrate,Hegel o pune sub semnul tragicului. (exista mai multe definitii ale tragicului, dar cea mai cunoscutaeste: In cazul tragicului se confrunta doua forte dintre care una este calificata pozitiv, iar altanegativ; in aceasta confruntare iese invingatoare forta negativa).

Hegel: Se confrunta doua forte, ambele calificate pozitiv. Aceste doua forte se ruineaza reciproc.Exemplificand pe cazul lui Socrate, putem considera ca atenienii aveau dreptate pentru ca ei isiaparau obiceiurile, traditiile, credintele pe care Socrate le contesta (stiu un singur lucru, ca nu stiunimic). Hegel spune ca si Socrate avea dreptate pentru ca el aduce in lume un principiu nou - alinitiativei si al raspunderii.

Earth’s plates move slower than thought

The mystery of erratic changes in the history of Earth’s past and current plate motions has been cracked by academics from The Australian National University.

Dr Giampiero Iaffaldano, from the Research School of Earth Sciences in the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, led a team that found true changes in plate motions occur on timescales no shorter than a few million years.

Solar and wind energy may stabilise the power grid
